Basically a cute, sentimental story of how little Chucky - the baby who looks like Chris Evans after electrocution - tries to find a new mummy to replace one who died. Unfortunately, his choice alights upon a child-hating Frenchwoman (voiced with considerable gusto by Susan Sarandon) who runs a Japanese theme park in Paris.

Though aimed at children, this is an amusing, wittily scripted romp that even adults will enjoy, providing they can put up with the potty humour and noise level.

Undercutting the schmaltz is a clear-sighted view of just how revolting and insanitary small children can be. The villainness has a good line in repartee. "This child is leaking from the mouth!" she complains about one. "Now run along," she smiles sweetly at another, "before you give me lice".

It's not quite as entertaining or sophisticated as The Emperor's New Groove. However, adults will be entertained by the numerous movie parodies. The Godfather, King Kong, Jurassic Park, Cyrano de Bergerac and Lady and the Tramp all get a good kicking. And you don't have to be a rampant Euro-sceptic to derive a little frisson from the sight of French rudeness being ridiculed, or various treasured Paris landmarks being comprehensively trashed.
