| | Impressive, claustrophobic film, cleverly directed to communicate what it must be like cooped up in a submarine. The weakness is the predictable plot, which doesn't measure up to the films to which it's most often compared, All Quiet On The Western Front and The Cruel Sea. A big hit internationally, it launched Petersen on a Hollywood career. Oscar-nominated for its cinematography, editing, sound and sound editing. | | |
