The ultimate in cute buddy-buddy movies, charmingly acted by Paul Newman and Robert Redford, pacily directed by George Roy Hill, and written by William Goldman with a fine sense of comedy and thrills, though absolutely none of period.
Conrad Hall's cinematography won an Oscar, as did Burt Bacharach's song and score.
Very much a product of the swinging sixties, it now looks ponderously anarchic and morally fatuous - but it's undeniably well-produced.
