| | Exemplary action movie starring Sigourney Weaver (pictured) as the survivor from Alien, returning to wipe out the creatures which attacked her last crew. The special effects won an Oscar; and though the story-line is mechanical and the intention frankly exploitative, it certainly grips the attention. The director’s cut has a clearer narrative, especially when it comes to Weaver’s rescue of a small child (Carrie Henn), and the additions make more sense of the maternal symbolism which pervades the movie. It remains unusual for action movies in the way it makes use of strong female protagonists. The film was much better received than its predecessor. although in reviewing it some critics seemed to be wondering if Alien had not been underrated. | | |
