The ultimate in mindless action flicks, directed with such speed and style that it looks like an advert for testosterone. Director Kathryn Bigelow's obvious admiration for Swayze's torso turns this into a Bodhi body movie. The action sequences are exciting, although there are so many false endings that the movie seems to go on forever. Peter Iliff's screenplay is splendidly banal and shows about as much awareness of FBI procedure as Fantasia. Even the dumbest audience will be able to outguess the Feds on this case, and the movie isn't well served by Keanu Reeves, whose attempts to suggest spiritual awakening are risible. He offers two expressions: gormless and unbelievably gormless.
