Two theatrical producers (Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder) try to fleece their investors by deliberately over-financing a sure-fire flop musical on the life of Adolf Hitler. Needless to say, their attempt to fail fails. |

| Critically savaged on release as crude, tasteless and unfunny - and there are certainly a few moments which fit all three descriptions - Mel Brooks's farce stands up today as a comedy classic. The two leading performances have a wild charm, and the production number Springtime For Hitler is an imperishable delight. | |
