On one level, the movie is a realistic study of two lost souls coming together, while on another, it's an allegory about the collapse of communism and the fall of the Berlin Wall. And though it's hard to pinpoint exactly how, the two levels do connect and complement each other. Adlon has a true gift for poetic imagery, and he's able to shift between the real and the symbolic with remarkable fluidity... Singer k.d. lang makes her acting debut in this hauntingly beautiful movie about dislocation and the search for identity.

(Marjorie Baumgarten , Austin Chronicle)

An interesting and compelling film.
