The found-footage hook is starting to feel pretty ancient, and the human drama is patchy at best, but Dinosaur Project is entertainingly silly.
(Josh Winning, Total Film)
The decision to steer clear of cheap shock-tactic gore is refreshing, allowing director Sid Bennett to orchestrate thrills in a more creative manner. The central father-son relationship does border on melodramatic inanity in the early stages, but sterling work from Dillane and Kane ensures that an emotional bond develops that culminates in an effective payoff in the jungle. Elsewhere, the writing is uneven and prone to taking the easy dramatic route. In particular, the sudden character shift from one of the group into 'psycho mode' is entirely unconvincing and channels an awkward shift similar to that in the abhorrent Sanctum 3D. On the whole though, The Dinosaur Project is good and undemanding fun. There are enough sharp claws to overcome the flaws and ensure this is never a dino-bore.
(Ben Rawson-Jones, Digital Spy)
The dinosaurs do the business, but they are let down badly by the human element.
(Adam Lee Davies, Little White Lies)
