| | Somewhere along the line the story of two friends on the road has become the Malkovich acting workshop roadshow. No sooner have Lenny and George walked into their new lodgings than, uh-oh, Malkovich has spotted a bed on which he can bounce up and down in an endearingly simple way. And who the hell let that puppy on the set? Too late, Malkovich has his hands on it and, well, he's mewling at it in this wonderfully simple way as well... Sinise does his best as the exasperated and occasionally irate George. But perhaps because he also directed the movie he has made the mistake of being too self-effacing. You do your best to concentrate on him every now and again but, here we go again, Malkovich has just spotted another fold in his dungarees to fiddle with. | | | (Tom Shone, Mail on Sunday) | |
